Cuttings Blower

@ Dual Fuse, we are perpetually fascinated by the power that we manage to bring to bear with air, both in positive and negative pressure ranges. The outcome of our fascination with air +/- radiates through the vast majority of our products up and downstream from the Rig drilling operation especially in our Dual Fuse-Cuttings Blowers.

The Cuttings Blowers are located upstream on the Rig from where the Shakers transfer drill cuttings direct via a hopper or via screw conveyors into the Cuttings Blowers.

Description

Environmentally sound design

Once drill cuttings enter the feed hopper of the Dual Fuse® Cuttings Blower unit, they are brought into a fully enclosed system and isolated from Operators. Cuttings are then pneumatically discharged.

Safety

The Dual Fuse® Cuttings Blower unit is supplied in an ATEX hazardous Zone configuration as standard and operates at low noise levels and eliminates spillage. It has a small footprint. The blower has a footprint of less than 5 x 5 ft (1.52 x 1.52 m), minimizing the space required for cuttings conveying equipment.

Versatility

The Dual Fuse® Cuttings Blower can be used to convey cuttings in a variety of applications, including filling Dual Fuse tanks and skips, and conveying towards CRI (cuttings re-injection installations) and drill cuttings dryers.

The Dual Fuse® blower unit will convey cuttings at a rate of 25Mton/hr in a typical installation, and can convey cuttings right across the Offshore Oil rig. It can also achieve significant vertical lifts of cuttings and besides drill cuttings can be used to convey other specified materials .

In-Service Reliability

The blower is an extremely reliable device that uses compressed air to move material. It is proven in oilfield service with OBM-and WBM-contaminated cuttings.

Ease of use. The unit will be run on a variable timer. A level probe may be fitted to ensure optimum cycling efficiency, resulting in automatic operation under normal circumstances.

Benefits:

  • Highly mobile in tight places on Rigs and PSV’s enabling easy transfer from one place to the next
  • Tailor made to convey drill cuttings
  • Small foot print
  • Level probe in feed chute maximizes efficiency in operation (Optional)
  • Eliminates worker exposure to petrochemical properties of content such as base oil
  • No spillage
  • Low noise levels

In-Service Reliability.

The Dual Fuse® Cuttings Blower unit is a central force within Dual Fuse® system, receiving drill cuttings from the Shaker ditch and conveying these to Dual Fuse tanks, skips or other applications. A typical configuration includes one Dual Fuse® blower, but two may be used in parallel where very higher rates of cutting conveyance is required.

The installation and cuttings-feed arrangements for the blower are a key aspect in any pre-installation survey and installation planning. Ideally, the blower should be installed directly under the shaker ditch. Availability of sufficient height is an important consideration as well; augers may be used to supply the Dual Fuse® Cuttings Blower unit where necessary.

Functionality Explained

Gravity feeds material into the Dual Fuse® blower via a feed chute assisted by pulse air, and vibration. Once the unit has been loaded with material, the inlet valve is closed by a two-stage sealing mechanism. Firstly, the spherical Dome valve section is rotated to block the flow of material. Secondly, an inflatable ring seal is activated to create a pressure-tight seal around the inlet. Once sealed, the vessel is pressurized, and compressed air activates the material in the vessel and discharges it in a batch.

The Dual Fuse® blower unit is operated on an adjustable timer. Cycle time should be varied according to the material type and ROP. An optional level probe in the feed chute may be installed to further enhance efficiency in operation. Such probe signals when one full batch is available in the chute and automatically triggers a conveying cycle. The blower is normally discharged into a 5-in. (127-mm) steel pipe system; 5-in. (127-mm) a flexible hose can be used in some applications.

All exposed internal surfaces are coated to ensure corrosion resistance and lower friction coefficient, and a low-friction plastic liner is fitted to the feed chute.

The Dual Fuse® Cuttings Blower is configured to ATEX hazardous Zones including its controls. All valves are pneumatically operated.
